Custom Editing
Let’s explore what happens after filming day, when I begin crafting your finished video.
First, I process and lightly edit your long-form interview. This means removing any long pauses, water breaks, or moments where we might have been interrupted. I also enhance the color to ensure you look your absolute best. The goal is to create a smooth, engaging conversation while preserving the authenticity of your storytelling.
I add chapter markers throughout the interview, making it easy for family members or friends to jump to specific stories they want to hear. I also add text overlays for important names, dates, and places you mention. This helps future generations who might want to research family history—they’ll have the correct spellings and timeframes right there on screen.
For Mini-Documentary or Documentary packages, the editing process is more extensive and typically takes three to six months. I carefully select and weave together your most compelling stories, add appropriate music, incorporate your photos and any historical footage, and sometimes create custom graphics. The result is something you might see on the History Channel or the Biography Channel—a polished, professional documentary that tells your unique story.
Remember, documentary packages always include the full long-form interview. You get both the complete conversation and your beautifully edited highlights.
